CaribSalaries

Caribbean Salaries

Real salaries reported by people across the region.

Did you know? Guyana

Three things about the place behind the numbers.

Caribbean by culture, South American by map

Guyana sits on the South American mainland and borders Venezuela, Brazil and Suriname, yet it is a founding member of CARICOM and the secretariat is in Georgetown. It is the only country in South America with English as its official language, and the national game is cricket rather than football.

The fastest growing economy in the world

Commercially viable oil was found offshore in 2015 and the first barrels were produced at the end of 2019. The economy has since expanded at rates no other country has matched, and the knock-on demand for engineers, accountants, logistics staff and construction labour has pulled salaries up sharply.

One drop, 226 metres

Kaieteur Falls in the interior drops around 226 metres in a single uninterrupted fall, roughly four times the height of Niagara. What makes it unusual is combining that height with real volume, in rainforest with no town, no gift shop and no railing anywhere near it.
