CaribSalaries

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

1. Who we are

CaribSalaries, an online-only service based in Jamaica, is the data controller for personal data processed through caribsalaries.com. Contact: privacy@caribsalaries.com.

This policy is written with the Jamaican Data Protection Act, 2020 in mind. If you are in another jurisdiction, additional rights may apply to you.

2. Our approach

We collect as little personal data as we practically can. Salary submissions can be made without an account, and we deliberately do not record IP addresses, device fingerprints, or browser identifiers alongside submissions. We designed it this way so that submissions cannot be traced back to individuals — including by us.

3. What we collect

If you create an account: your email address, a hashed password (we never see your password in plain text), and any optional profile details you choose to provide. If you use a social or third-party login, we receive your email address and basic profile information from that provider.

Your account email address is used to run the account — confirmation, password resets, security notices — and also to send you occasional product communications: updates to CaribSalaries and announcements when a new salary insight report is published. This is stated on the signup page before you create the account. You can unsubscribe from the product communications at any time, in one click from any of them or by writing to privacy@caribsalaries.com, and doing so does not affect your account. Service emails the account cannot work without — confirmation, password reset, security and legal notices — continue either way, because they are not marketing.

When you submit salary data or a review: the employer, role, sector, country, salary amount and currency, pay period, experience band, employment type, selected benefits, and any review text or free-text benefit note. If you are logged in, this is linked to your account so you can manage it. If you submit anonymously, it is not linked to you in any way and cannot be.

If you buy a paid product: our payment provider processes your payment details. We receive confirmation of the transaction and your email address for delivery and receipts. We never receive or store your full card details.

Automatically: we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns, and our hosting and security providers process technical request data (including IP addresses) transiently to deliver the site, block abuse, and prevent bot spam. This technical data is not joined to your submissions.

Support correspondence: if you email us, we keep the correspondence to handle your request.

4. Why we process it, and on what basis

| Purpose | Legal basis | |---|---| | Publishing salary data and reviews | Consent (you submit it knowing it will be published) | | Operating your account | Performance of a contract | | Sending product updates and insight-report announcements to account holders | Legitimate interests, disclosed at signup, with unsubscribe in every message | | Preventing spam, fraud, and abuse | Legitimate interests | | Delivering and supporting paid products | Performance of a contract | | Producing aggregated statistics and insight reports | Legitimate interests / consent (data is aggregated and not identifying) | | Complying with legal obligations | Legal obligation |

5. Publication — what becomes public

Salary figures, employer, role, country, experience band, employment type, and selected benefits are published publicly on the Service and may appear in search engine results and in aggregated products we sell.

Review text and free-text benefit notes are published only once a second approved report exists for the same employer and role.

We never publish your name, email address, or account identity next to a submission. All submissions are displayed anonymously regardless of whether you were logged in.

5a. Email we send you, and how to stop it

We send two kinds of email, and the difference matters:

Service email — confirming your address, resetting your password, security notices, and notice of material changes to these documents. You cannot unsubscribe from these while the account is open, because they are how the account works. Closing your account ends them.

Product email — updates to CaribSalaries and announcements when a new salary insight report is published. Occasional, and from us only. Every one carries a one-click unsubscribe. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately, changes nothing about your account, and does not remove your submissions.

We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with advertisers, and we do not send anyone else's marketing to it.

If you signed up before this policy was updated and would rather not receive product email, unsubscribe from the next one or write to privacy@caribsalaries.com.

6. Who we share data with

We use service providers who process data on our behalf: hosting and database infrastructure, authentication, email delivery, bot protection, analytics, advertising, and payment processing. They are bound to process data only on our instructions.

Advertising partners, currently Google AdSense, may use cookies or similar technologies to choose which ads you see. You can switch personalised advertising off at Google Ads Settings, opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info, and block or clear cookies in your browser whenever you like. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

We may disclose data where required by law or a court order of competent jurisdiction, or to establish or defend legal claims. We will resist requests to identify submitters, and for anonymous submissions we have nothing to disclose.

We do not sell personal data. Our paid products contain aggregated, non-identifying statistics only.

7. International transfers

Our providers may store or process data outside Jamaica, including in the United States and Europe. We rely on providers that offer appropriate contractual safeguards for such transfers.

8. How long we keep data

  • Account data: while your account is open, and up to 12 months after closure for fraud prevention and legal claims.
  • Published submissions: indefinitely, as they form the public dataset — but see below on deletion.
  • Correspondence: 24 months.
  • Transaction records: as required by Jamaican tax and accounting law.

9. Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2020 you have the right to access your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to request erasure, to object to certain processing, to restrict processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these, contact privacy@caribsalaries.com. We will respond within the statutory timeframe. To stop product email specifically you do not need to write to us at all — the unsubscribe link in any of those messages is enough (section 5a).

Two honest limitations:

  1. Anonymous submissions cannot be retrieved, corrected, or deleted at your request, because we hold nothing linking them to you and cannot verify the claim. This is the direct cost of the privacy protection described in section 2.
  2. Where your data has already been incorporated into published aggregate statistics or a sold report, that aggregation cannot practically be reversed — though the aggregate does not identify you.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Information Commissioner in Jamaica.

10. Security

We use row-level database access controls, encryption in transit, hashed passwords, multi-factor authentication on administrative accounts, server-side input validation, rate limiting, and automated dependency scanning. No system is perfectly secure, but we practise data minimisation precisely so that a breach would expose as little as possible. If a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify affected users and the Information Commissioner as required by law.

11. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

12. Cookies

Three kinds of cookie are used here, and we would rather tell you plainly than ask you to dismiss a box you have not read:

  • Strictly necessary, for sessions and security. Signing in does not work without these.
  • Analytics, so we can see which pages get read and which do not. We look at totals, never at individuals.
  • Advertising, set by our advertising partner when an ad is served, so that ads are relevant and are not repeated at you.

Analytics and advertising cookies are set when you arrive. Your browser can block or clear them, and the advertising controls in section 6 turn personalisation off without blocking anything. Either way every page on the site stays fully readable, because nothing here is behind a cookie.

13. Changes

We will post updates here with a new "last updated" date and give notice of material changes.
